ALOHA! I recently got back from the beautiful island of Maui. I’m still adjusting to the cold Oregon weather, but I’ll take it over the rain. I had the most wonderful vacation. It felt great to be in paradise even if it was for less than a week. Maui is my favorite Hawaiian island. I’ve been traveling there with my family over the last 6 years. The entire island is breathtaking but our favorite part is Kihei.

Kihei is the perfect spot for a mini vacation. There are great places to stay, delicious places to eat, six miles of beaches, snorkeling, and of course shopping. Here’s a list of my favorite aspects of the island and pictures from the trip!

Place to Stay
Kamaole Sands
For the last 6 years my family and I have been staying at Kamaole Sands. If you are looking for a great condo while staying in Kihei this is the place to stay. It’s across the street from Kamaole Beach III and within walking distance of delicious food and great shops!

Places to Eat
Fred’s Mexican Cafe
Fred’s is a local favorite. It’s Maui’s best Mexican restaurant and where you will find me if I’m in Kihei on a Tuesday. If you’re in Kihei for the week make sure you check out Fred’s for Taco Tuesday. It’s the place to be and if you are a frequent visitor to the island you will always see a familiar face! The tacos are to die for and are not complete without a Fred’s Classic Rita!

Five Palms Beach Grill
5Palms is the perfect happy hour spot! HH is daily from 3 t0 7 and if you go after 5 there is usually a line! Make sure you try the coconut crusted tiger prawns, spring rolls and don’t forget to order a Mai Tai! This year we celebrated my dad’s birthday there!

Sarento’s On The Beach
Every morning we take a long walk on the beach and this year we happened to come across Sarento’s, which just started serving breakfast! Stop by in the morning and enjoy the Maui Pineapple filled with fresh local fruit and Starbucks coffee.

Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante
The perfect place to watch the sunset and enjoy delicious Italian food. For the past three years we have been visiting this restaurant to celebrate birthdays or a special occasion.

If you are anything like us you will also enjoy cooking in and enjoying the delicious fresh food you can buy from the local grocery store! Since we stay in a condo we usually eat in a few nights and enjoy our lanai {a veranda or roofed patio.} Foodland is a great place to buy fresh ahi for dinner and pineapples for breakfast. You can always buy from the local farmers selling fruit on the street as well!

Beaches to Visit
Kamaole Beach III
The smallest of the Kamaole Beaches, but popular with the locals, beach III is my favorite beach. It might be due to the fact that it’s the closest to the condo we stay in!  A great place to snorkel on a calm day and a perfect beach to watch the sunset on!

Keawakapu Beach
Nestled between Kamaole Beach III and Wailea you will find Keawakapu Beach! Locals frequent it and it’s the perfect beach for a morning jog.

Places to Snorkel
No trip to Maui is complete without a trip to Molokini. I could try and explain how incredible the crescent moon-shaped island is but I wouldn’t do it justice, you will just have to experience it for yourself!

Places to Shop
Kihei Kalama Village
My mom and I have been going to the Kihei Kalama Village since our first trip to Kihei. We love buying gifts for our friends and family from local vendors. There’s something for everyone including great places to eat for the men who tag along and need a break!

The Shops at Wailea
Another favorite stop is the Shops at Wailea. Here you can enjoy boutiques, galleries, and special events.

Do you have a favorite tropical destination?
